It is with deep sadness that we share the death of our former ED, Travis Gay. She passed away peacefully on October 26th with her loved ones by her side. She was 46 years old. Travis took on the leadership of MRE while she was still in treatment for colon cancer. She was feeling better and wanted to direct her energies, where she often did, into her community. We were thrilled to welcome her. During her short tenure, before cancer took more from her than she could give, Travis forged meaningful and lasting relationships with partners, new and existing donors, volunteers and supporters of MRE. She brought her love of plant-based eating and gardening directly into our education programs for both children and adults. She infused her contagious good energy into all facets of MRE. She is missed not only by Mountain Roots Education but by the entire Teton community where she lived for over the past two decades and where her personal and professional legacy will shine on. MRE will continue to honor Travis by building stronger programs for kids and adults in the Teton area, and by growing our offerings to reach more people.

Our Goals

Mountain Roots Education will implement and run a garden program at every school in the Greater Teton Area by 2030. We believe that hands-on garden and farm-based education should be easily accessible for everyone. Deeply rooted in the Mountains is a heritage of sustainable-living practitioners. It is our goal to educate and empower our community through hands-on adult workshops for sustainable living by providing monthly workshops including raising livestock, field dressing, hide-tanning, planting and maintaining healthy garden spaces, saving seeds, preserving the harvest and more.
